At the crossroads of the Midwest a unique recreational bike trail crosses Interstates 70 & 57. In order to complete the project, a pedestrian bridge had to be built across all lanes of I-70 & I-57. This bridge had to span the interstate, provide a safe crossing for bikers and be aesthetically pleasing in this high use area. In addition, corrosion control was needed so that maintenance would be minimized over the high traffic highway. A duplex coating of hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating was the answer to all these requirements.
A duplex coating of hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating was the answer to all these requirements.
The design included tubular structures with tubular pickets, decorative light posts and chain link fence sections. Simulated stone concrete foundations support the railing system and antique lights on the bridge complete the project. A decorative appearance, a safe recreational crossing and corrosion free structure makes this a benchmark project for future projects throughout the country.
