Ananda, is a Sanskrit word that, as is often the case, does not translate well to other languages. However, something akin to Divine Joy would be in the ballpark.
Just as the steel sculpture breaks free from corrosion thanks to hot-dip galvanizing, perhaps we too can break free from the corrosive effects of our own doubts and fears.
Jean-Marc has spent a lifetime expressing his visions of life as do most artists, but in his case, always in steel. This is particularly true when, as in this piece, he creates it without a mandate or buyer predetermined. This sculpture in steel is 95" tall, made with unused cuttings from his commercial projects scrap bin.
Rising like a phoenix, the being in sculpture is breaking from chains. Not chains imposed by others but the chains we slowly add onto ourselves as we pass through our lives. Just as the steel sculpture breaks free from corrosion thanks to hot-dip galvanizing, perhaps we too can break free from the corrosive effects of our own doubts and fears.
Whomever sees fit to acquire this work will be reminded of the limitations we place on ourselves and how liberating it must feel to break free.
Hot-dip Galvanizing adds both the desired esthetic appearance but also assures that the long lasting and natural pure zinc will maintain the beauty of the sculpture for years beyond our own lifespans.
