Hot-dip galvanizing has, in recent years shown it value in protecting trailers from corrosion. However, this new trailer design turns an old galvanizing paradigm on its head.
Traditionally the primary design concern when choosing HDG as the corrosion solution centered on design changes needed to facilitate the drainage and distortion challenges of the galvanizing process. This is still the case, but the new dynamic was to reimagine the trailer design to account for the benefits of hot-dip galvanizing. Fundamentally the process was to reengineer the structure by removing extra material sizes and thicknesses that had been built into previous designs over the years to maintain safety longer on painted trailers knowing that in a few short years they would suffer structural corrosion.
The result is a lighter, more fuel efficient and less costly trailer that thanks to HDG, has corrosion protection so long lasting that the mechanical components will eventually fail before corrosion leads to end of service. The multitude of benefits of hot-dip galvanizing can bring to the trucking industry are just beginning with much potential ahead for more and better products having longer and longer service life thanks to the knights shield of HDG!
