In Portersville, Pennsylvania, a relic of automotive history was getting a new lease on life. The 1958 Willys Pick-Up Truck had seen better days, until Wack MFG strategized a plan to bring a fresh look to the vehicle using hot-dip galvanizing.
Every detail was handled seamlessly from start to finish as the galvanizer worked alongside the fabricator to make sure the customer received a quality product.
The fabricator had tried sandblasting and painting in the past, only to figure out that it would chip away and cost more money over the lifespan of the vehicle. The deterioration over the years led to frustration, leaving Wack with the motivation to find a better coating protection system.
The truck needed more than just some cosmetic touch-ups—it needed strength, durability and protection that would be able to stand the test of time. For Dean Wack, the fabricator behind the restoration, there was truly only one option that stood strong against the rest: Hot-dip galvanizing.
The Willys Pick-Up Truck was not just restored; it was transformed. Underneath its vintage exterior, the truck was fitted with a powerful diesel engine and a high-speed transmission. The fabricator built the frame by hand, giving the truck a unique blend of old-craftmanship and modern ingenuity.
The project required the steel components to be properly lifted and drained so that the molten zinc could flow evenly and drain perfectly. Every detail was handled seamlessly from start to finish as the galvanizer worked alongside the fabricator to make sure the customer received a quality product.
When it came to selecting a galvanizer for the project, the choice was simple. The galvanizer’s location, kettle size and long-term relationship led to a solidified partnership that was built on trust and assurance in a quality end-product.
As it rolls the streets of Portersville, Willy’s Pick-Up Truck will continue to enamor future generations as it becomes a local star in the area, being featured in parades and car shows in town. And most importantly, it will be able to stand the test of weathering due to the strength in its steel members.
