The Pan American (Pan Am) Games can perhaps be best characterized as the home town Olympics for the Western Hemisphere, occurring every four years in the year proceeding the summer Olympics.
The location for the 2015 Pan Am games was Toronto Canada at York University. A late decision to add additional seating to the track and field venue led to a challenging time frame and tricky crane-based installation. Hot-dip galvanizing was chosen to ensure maximum maintenance free life for these hard to reach seats as well as rapid reliable turnaround time that painting companies couldnt match.
While not a high tonnage project it showed off to the international sports community not only the robust long-life durability of hot-dip galvanized steel but also the ability of the galvanizing industry to rapidly execute within demanding just-in-time delivery schedules without compromising the excellent quality needed for hands-on steel products like stairways and hand rails.
