This prototype stands 200 feet tall and only requires 8 mph winds to produce electricity. Each section of this massive structure weighed in excess of 25,000 lbs, so special care was taken to ensure quality galvanizing. Drainage holes were designed into the project to produce optimal results. While other coatings were considered, nothing matched the affordability and durability of hot-dip galvanized steel for this project. Estimates show this turbine should last 80 years with no maintenance, making galvanized steel an excellent choice for corrosion protection of the life of this project.
