The Sheppard Air Force Base recently installed new fitness equipment at both ends of its outdoor (professional rubber-surfaced) running track that is fully lighted at night so it can be used 24 hours a day by base personnel to keep them in top physical form. This includes an adjustable sit-up bench, push-up stand and bar, back extension, pull-up bar and exercise bench which are all hot-dip galvanized and then duplex coated with an apropos matte dark green and yellow powder coat.
The hot-dip galvanizing industry has a long and distinguished history of working with all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Each piece of equipment is anchored in 7-foot deep concrete footers with a thick bed of colorful pea gravel covering the foundational base. The overall design and engineering of the fitness equipment is proprietary to Greenfield’s Outdoor Fitness, Anaheim, California and it is widely regarded as the gold standard in their industry, having supplied fitness equipment to all branches of the U.S. military. The lead designer and engineer for the company, Aviv Avishay, personally oversees the creation of every piece of exercise equipment from inception to completion.
The fitness equipment used at this base is for outdoor training circuits that are done in conjunction with running laps on the track. Every single piece of outdoor fitness equipment has been hot-dip galvanized before being powder coated to ensure maximum corrosion protection and longevity against the elements. The initial hot-dip galvanizing of the material was straightforward with minimal clean-up which is absolutely ideal for a galvanizer but, every project has its hurdles. In this case, there was a very limited time frame to turn the material around before it needed to be sent to the powder coater and then shipped 1500 miles to the Sheppard AFB for installation and a final inspection. In general, military time frames are known for having inflexible commitment windows that need to be met. We, as hot-dip galvanizers, have always excelled at keeping our commitments and exceeding expectations, especially when under stringent time constraints. It is the very nature of our business and we welcome the challenge with open arms.
The hot-dip galvanizing industry has a long and distinguished history of working with all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. It is truly an honor and privilege for us to help them protect their steel equipment and infrastructure from environmental corrosion at the United States military bases throughout America.
The Sheppard Air Force Base is home to the United States Air Force’s largest technical training wing and a renowned flying training program. The base was officially activated on October 17, 1941 and provided essential aircrew and aircraft mechanics training during World War II and is strategically located 145 miles northwest of Dallas, Texas.
Greenfield’s Outdoor Fitness is a progressive, growing company that has an expanding product line that currently includes military fitness, school fitness, senior fitness, fitness trails and their newest entry called signature accessible, equipment that is designed specifically for mobility-impaired individuals.
