Knowing that the structure would be constantly bombarded by small grain particles and moisture associated with the handling of grain, the fabricator and owner knew that hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) was the only coating with the durability to provide years of corrosion protection. Even if the blasting of grain caused a nick or chip, the sacrificial properties of HDG would self heal the area. Previous success using HDG and the quality of the coating made the decision an easy one. Now the estimated 75 years of life will easily out live the life and technology of the system. Hands down, HDG was the only coating choice.
