The Topple Tower ride, located in the Marineland entertainment complex, Niagra Falls, Ontario, contains a forty seat ring encircling a 25-mitre tower. The ring revolves around the tower, sending riders in a circular pattern as it leans forward and backward and side-to-side.
Once the tower tilts 60 degrees from its original position, it forms a 30 degree angle perpendicular with the ground. At the base of this ride sits 200,000 lbs. of galvanized steel weights that prevent the tower from toppling over. Hot-dip galvanizing was chosen for the counterweights for its superior durability against corrosive elements from exposure to the extreme Lake-effect weather related conditions of the region.
The 32 counter weight plates, each approximately 8,500 pounds, were galvanized to prevent time consuming and costly downtime for the ride. By using HDG the preventative maintenance is no longer an issue, and the newly galvanized finish complements the ride while giving it long-lasting protection for many years to come.
