Walt Hull construction was approached by a familiar end user, Steve Bruner, as they worked together in the past. However, this time was a little different as Steve's wife passed away in a car accident last year. Steve's wife, Kathy Bruner, was a proud wife, mother, grandmother and Rotarian in the local Lawrence, Kansas area. Kathy spent most of her days with family and friends made during her time working with the local Rotary club. Once this tragic accident took place, Steve approached Walt Construction wanting to commemorate her life and legacy for future generations to observe. Steve provided the design and was very particular on dimensions for both aesthetics and comfort ability. Steve wanted this to be simple yet sturdy as he knew this is what Kathy would want.
Both Walt and Steve were pleased with the end result. This piece hit the mark on what the end user was looking for in a memorial piece for his passed loved one.
Since this was a memorial to his late wife, both Steve and Walt wanted this dedicated bench to last as close to forever as possible. Walt proposed galvanizing as he had experience with this process in the past and was aware of the longevity it would provide due to corrosion control. Steve wanted to add a little color to the piece so a powder coat was chosen by the end user to add a little pop to the memorial bench. Steve wanted the armrest to be braided solid steel which Kathy loved on a project Walt fabricated for them in the past. This braided armrest was a concern for Hot Dip Galvanizing due to its complex design but we were able to execute this without issue as we knew the powder coat would amplify any imperfections. This required the galvanizer to pay close attention to detail in the cleanup process as this was a significant piece for Steve. The combination of both Hot Dip Galvanizing and powder coating gave this bench a brilliant design for many park goers to enjoy for many years to come!
