The Bayshore Center at Bivalve is a non-profit organization and operates the Delaware Bay Museum, New Jersey’s only environmental history museum. Their mission is to further the understanding of the human impact on the environment. The Center also operates the authentically restored 1928 oyster dredging schooner "A.J. MEERWALD" which is included on the National Register of Historic Places and New Jersey’s official Tall Ship, as a hands-on sailing classroom throughout the region.
Hot-dip galvanizing was the logical choice on this project.
The schooner is undergoing a major restoration and required the replacement and restoration of several old and new steel items. The fabricator reached out to the galvanizer for information and pricing. Realizing the significant impact the schooner A.J. Meerwald had on the Center’s mission and the benefit to the community, the galvanizer offered to provide its services at no charge.
Since the AJ Meerwald has been extensively used for many years as a "water-going" classroom, the exposure to the Bay's water necessitated replacement of some components and refurbishment of others. The fabricator had experience in the restoration of this type of historic schooner and realized that hot-dip galvanizing was the logical choice on this project.
