The entire sign, which consists mostly of flat plate, was hot-dip galvanized, totaling about 5,000 lbs. (2.3 tonnes). Because of the intricacies of the letters and the affluent location of the sign, extreme care had to be taken to ensure a flawless coating on the surface and in the cracks and crevasses of the letters. This sign is unique in nature, with a handcrafted cursive 'L' on both sides as you enter or exit the community. Combining the hot-dip galvanized coating with a clear, protective coating not only gives extra life to the steel, but also creates a beautiful antiqued-look.
