"Tustin High School elected to utilize a duplex system to enhance the learning atmosphere for their new Student Quad Plaza, a place for students to gather and walk through. By specifying hot-dip galvanizing for their school structure modernization program, they ensured extended life expectancy to complement their distinguished award winning educational program. With Tustin High Schools short proximity to the Pacific Ocean, galvanized steel affords maximum product life with minimum maintenance for such a corrosive environment.
Galvanized steel affords maximum product life with minimum maintenance...
The architectural firm designed a general student meeting area where the aesthetic blend of paint over hot dip galvanized product provides a learning environment with excellent life potential to continue the rich tradition of superior learning at Tustin High School. A duplex system was chosen also to reduce future maintenance costs.
The canopy structures were challenging due to the size of the structures (12 x 24) which required a progressive dip application. Excessive zinc buildup was not an option and a smooth transition of the progressive dip line was imperative. Also, due to the fact that this project was being installed during the Tustin High School Christmas/New Year break, timing was of the essence. All parties involved (fabricator, galvanizer and the installers) were on a disciplined timeline to ensure product success. The quick turnaround of the galvanizing process met everyone's needs.
Tustin High School wanted to create a pleasant learning atmosphere for all students, teachers and visitors who study, work and conduct business on their campus. Visual appearance is paramount to this establishment and the Student Quad Plaza canopy design clearly accomplished this requirement with its gleaming and modern-looking exposed steel. Fifty tons of tube frame canopy assemblies, tube columns, truss frames, bent fabricated tube assemblies, fabricated beams, handrail, and gates were galvanized for this project. The new modernization of this learning center will help to continue their rich learning process for years in the future."
