The Ste-Anne-des-Plaines prison outdoor shooting range project was slated for painting but a concerted effort by the fabricator and the galvanizer convinced the project engineers of the superiority of hot-dip galvanizing.
Painting had initially been selected as the corrosion solution because of its falsely earned reputation of being the low initial cost solution. Surprisingly for the engineers hot-dip galvanizing was shown not only to be a lower direct cost solution but its exceptional abrasion resistance also streamlined erection costs and time for the tightly packed steel structures of the individual shooting alleys. This initial cost benefit is of course greatly augmented by the vastly longer service life and a maintenance cost only a small fraction of that for painting.
While not a large project in of itself this shooting range is an excellent example of the power of persuasion when every player in a project can benefit from the exceptional business case for hot-dip galvanizing:
A classic win-win case study for hot-dip galvanizing!
