This structure, created by the combined efforts of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design students from Iowa State University during a 15-week project, was designed to serve as a lasting example of design excellence at ISU for future design engineering students.
The cabin needed to be durable, low-maintenance structure, and hot-dip galvanized steel will require no maintenance for 50+ years. The students also designed with an eye toward sustainability. Hot-dip galvanizing suits this need perfectly, as it is the only corrosion protection system that is 100% recyclable. Also, the durable, maintenance-free nature of galvanized steel means no energy or chemicals will be expended during touch-ups or repair. The galvanized steel on this project was a good representation of durable, sustainable, maintenance-free design.
