All projects on this campus in the last ten years have been hot-dip galvanized because they like the ease of specifying galvanizing. Originally this job was specified paint only, yet the college and fabricator stepped in and pushed hot-dip galvanizing. The main selling point was time savings. Solaire Generation, the designer and fabricator, utlilized a galvanized finish for a number of institutional and military projects in 2012.
The project consists of nearly 3 miles of 40' wide elevated solar parking canopies, generating a peak electrical output of over 8 megawatts. Given that the project represents a significant commitment to sustainability, galvanizing was the obvious choice over a three part paint system after the facts were presented. Galvanizing was able to beat the original delivery time by over 6 weeks on the 3.5 million pound project.
