Even though the practice field was enclosed, hot-dip galvanized steel was utilized for structural steel to protect the fabric covered facility from corrosion.
High humidity within the facility can lead to condensation on the steel, and because galvanizing is a total immersion process, all the nooks and crannies where condensation forms are completely coated. The owners architect stated he specified hot-dip galvanizing for three major reasons 1) it provides complete corrosion protection inside and out including areas with very close tolerances, 2) is not damaged during handling during shipment or erection, and 3) the processing time was half that of paint providing overall cost savings. The hot-dip galvanized frames, beams, angles, fasteners, and anchor bolts will ensure the practice facility will remain as elite as its franchise for decades.
