The Pearsall Power Plant is part of the south Texas Electric Cooperative. The 202.5 MW power plant is valued at $100 million and provides power to over 170,000 members in 65 South Texas counties. The plant is expected to run about 4,000 hours a year and calls for a corrosion protection plan that will not require down time for regular maintenance. This, along with the fact that hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) provides the abrasion resistance needed for the regularly abused ladders, platforms, grating and structural steel at the plant is why the fabricator, engineer, and owner all agreed on HDG for protection. ASTM 123 made specifying a breeze; the HDG coating provides an attractive look for the constant flow of traffic driving by every day on I-35.
