A new chairlift has been installed at the Park City Mountain Resort that is expected to be operational in time for the holidays this December, pending permitting. From the heart of the mountain and the Quicksilver Gondola, the new Over and Out Lift will provide skiers and snowboarders a faster, more convenient means of returning to Canyons Village. The lift solves the problem of needing an easier access to this area of the mountain. The new lift will connect the bottom of the Tombstone Express (a six passenger lift) with the top of the Sunrise Lift (a double chairlift on the front of the mountain), with a ride time of only around 5 minutes. This will be the fifth new lift for the resort since being purchased by Vail Resorts five years ago.
Hot-dip galvanizing helps keep things running like clockwork because it’s virtually maintenance free, keeping customers happy and saving everyone money
Park City Mountain Resort offers visitors year-round recreational opportunities from skiing and snowboarding in the winter to alpine slides and mini golf in the summer. Located about 32 miles from the Salt Lake City International Airport, the resort hosted Olympic snowboarding events and the men’s and women’s alpine giant slalom events in 2002. There are also several training courses for the U.S. Ski Team.
In 2015, Vail Resorts purchased Park City Mountain Resort and merged it with neighboring Canyons Resort, creating the largest ski and snowboard resort in the United States with 7,300 acres of terrain. The two resorts were linked together with the Quicksilver Gondola, an eight-passenger lift, creating a seamless experience from one resort to the other. The resort receives an average snowfall of 355 inches a year, with a base elevation of 6,800 feet, a summit elevation of 10,026 and a vertical drop of 3,200 feet. With over 330 trails, this large mountain resort offers a varied terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels and abilities.
The Over and Out Lift is a fixed grip quad that was designed, fabricated and installed by Skytrac Services. The chairlift has a total of 14 towers spanning 2,412 horizontal feet and 278 vertical feet. It has 100 HP and 46,000 lbs. / ft. of torque. Hot-dip galvanizing was chosen for the majority of the steel components on the lift due to its superior corrosion resistance, longevity, and decades of maintenance-free service compared to other coating systems. Hot-dip galvanizing has a positive reputation within the industry with numerous installations exemplifying the strength of the coating. To provide the best experience possible for the resort, lift closures have to be kept to a minimum. Hot-dip galvanizing helps keep things running like clockwork because it’s virtually maintenance free, keeping customers happy and saving everyone money. Skiers and snowboarders visiting Park City Mountain Resort in the future will be able to breathe in the beauty of the Utah Mountains atop this long-lasting lift.
