The City of Greenwood was looking to revitalize their downtown by enhancing Old City Park. Many elements were used to attract visitors to stay a while and enjoy the natural beauty this park brings to the downtown. A walking bridge brings a modern element to cross over the creek that divides the park.
Galvanizing is a great solution to the harsh winters and sustainability of the park.
Multiple coatings help to give this walking bridge additional corrosion protection from the harsh winters in Indiana. Galvanizing the structural steel on this bridge was a easy decision for sustainability of the park. Wet paint was used on the sides of the galvanized steel to help provide additional corrosion protection and blend aesthetics. The galvanized steel is topped with heat treated, thermally modified ash wood to bring back the natural element to this sophisticated design. It's connected with pregalvanized bolts and cradled in powder coated, perforated stainless steel panels for a modern touch. Twice the coatings help to provide twice the corrosion protection and minimize the cost for maintenance. A sleek, powder coated stainless steel handrail compliments the overall design, welcoming visitors to cross over the creek and check out what the other side of the park has to offer.
From a new playscape on one side of the creek to a festive pavilion on the other side, visitors can enjoy a stroll in the park's unique topography. The walking bridge in Old City Park reminds us that beauty can be achieved by uniting industrial elements with nature. The beautiful design matched with multiple levels of corrosion protection makes a sustainable solution for Greenwood's growing population. The bridge will allow visitors to enjoy both sides of the park for years to come.
