Hot-dip galvanizing was chosen for this project because it offered the most long-term, visually pleasing appearance when compared to flaking paint coatings (which have to be repainted annually.) This project is located in a salt-air atmosphere within a mile of the ocean, an environment that was creating poor paint appearances. After viewing HDG coatings, the decision was made to switch. Few in the oil industry currently galvanize any of their well components, and this project has resulted in other firms showing interest in the potential future of HDG for their projects.
