The Ogdensburg-Prescott bridge is a mile and a half long international cable suspension bridge that connects the United States to Canada. This bridge was originally built in 1960 and targeted recently as a structure in need of rehabilitation. The bridge was closed nightly from June through October 2021 to allow crews to replace the bridge decking. This bridge operates 24/7 and is an important part of trade between the US and Canada, the weight limit allows for tractor trailers to pass over it with ease.
The Ogdensburg-Prescott bridge is crucial to the passage of both people and goods between the United States and Canada.
This rehabilitation project utilized nearly a million pounds of steel to bring the bridge up to standards. The Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority partnered with the New York Department of Transportation to bring this rehabilitation to life, replacing all main span bridge decking, structural steel floor beams and stringers, raised concrete safety walks, and bridge railing systems across both approach spans and the main suspension spans.
Piasecki Steel along with Upstate Steel worked together to fabricate and install the components to bring this project to completion. The collaboration consisted of steel floor beams retrofit to reinforce and strengthen the existing floor beams in spans 1-8 with 27 tons of new hot-dip galvanized plates and angles as well as steel floor beam and joint replacement to replace a quantity of 383 W21x62 floor beams and a total of five expansion joints in spans 9-14 with 415 tons of hot-dip galvanized steel.
