In 2018, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) determined a Salem bus terminal needed a new canopy. The structure would provide travelers protection from the elements while waiting for their bus to arrive. The canopy needed to be strong and long lasting while blending in to the existing bus depot structures. 

The ODOT specified a duplex system of hot-dip galvanizing and paint for the steel canopy. Due to the immersion process of hot-dip galvanizing, the entire structure is protected from corrosion, both inside and out. The synergist effects of paint over hot-dip galvanizing provides even greater corrosion protection, unmatched by other coating systems. Painting also offered the ODOT the ability to match the canopy to the Bus Depot Building. They selected a crisp, bright white that blends in perfectly. The decision to use hot-dip galvanized steel results in a canopy that will be enjoyed by bus travelers for generations.
