Installed in 1936, this galvanized steel substation handles over 100,800 kilowatts of electricity. The Norris Dam and Power Plant was the first substation built in the Tennessee Valley Authority system. Hot dip galvanized steel encompasses the bolted lattice structures with angle posts measuring 3x3x3/8 and angle lacings of 2x2x5/16. All structural members and bolts were hot dip galvanized before assembly.
The substation was inspected and coating thickness readings were taken in 1986. The average of the galvanized coating was 2.1 mils.
