As part of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development's mission to deliver transportation and public works systems that enhance quality of life and facilitate economic growth, the department is working on reducing traffic noise in densely populated areas located close to highways.
The Department of Transportation's engineers used an aesthetically pleasing noise barrier reduction system on the north side of Interstate 12 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The department chose to use galvanized steel because of the minimal long term maintenance costs and the durability of the coating in the humid environment of southern Louisiana.
