In todays security conscious world, the waterways need protection from potential unwanted visitors. With that in mind, the United States Navy turned to Halo Maritime to design a flotation type of gate capable of stopping even the largest unwanted seaworthy vessel.
Hot-dip galvanized steel will ensure the safety of our troops by protecting these lines of defense for inland ports for decades.
These waterfront force protection barrier systems are installed to protect Navy vessels against terrorist attacks. The fences are constructed with modular units connected together so they can absorb water movements and levels. Flotation pontoons support the steel structure and nets catch watercraft attempting to jump the pontoons, basically creating a floating fence.
The Navy has a long history with hot-dip galvanizing, as they are often operating in seawater and other harsh environments. The Navy had tried out some hot-dip galvanized test sections years ago, and their performance reinforced the belief hot-dip galvanizing was the protection system of choice. As the fence system and gates will be submerged, there will not be easy access to maintain the structures. Hot-dip galvanized steel will ensure the safety of our troops by protecting these lines of defense for inland ports for decades.
