Iscar GSE designs and builds state-of-the-art ground services equipment for the aviation community. Equipped with 40 years of experience, the company’s product line delivers sustained performance with minimum maintenance at a low cost of ownership. Iscar GSE firmly believes the quality built into its products is its most valuable feature. With this dedication to quality coupled with decades of experience, it’s no surprise Iscar was one of the first companies in the industry to sell and promote hot-dip galvanized products.
The cost of galvanizing is equal to painting, but it last longer and it's not often offered, so this makes HDG a great marketing feature to our customers.
The variety of equipment Iscar GSE manufactures helps improve the efficiency and safety for cargo handling and transportation. This includes the slave rack, which is used for transferring Unit Load Devices (ULDs), or other large cargo items weighing up to 15,000 pounds. The ULD containers themselves are lightweight and, without proper handling, the containers and product inside are susceptible to damage. To reduce costly replacement or repair fees, the slave rack is used to provide a reliable, easy, safe and smooth method of transferring these items.
Slave racks are put to work in transporting facilities, which are in heavy industrial and/or tropical marine environments. The setting is also very rugged due to the constant flow of materials. By hot-dip galvanizing, Iscar GSE not only protects the steel equipment from rusting but also from damages caused by the heavy demand of transporting the pallets from one location to the other.
Prior to galvanizing, the company painted these racks but quickly learned the paint would not hold up in this harsh environment. With high long-term maintenance costs, this performance was not living up to Iscar GSE’s values. The durability and abrasion resistance of galvanizing reduces the maintenance costs to a minimum for several decades in service. The quality and long-lasting slave rack Iscar produced is recognized by major cargo shipping companies around the world resulting inorders from as far away as Guam.
Iscar GSE developed a close partnership with a local galvanizer that shares the same commitment to quality and service. Prior to processing, the companies worked together to modify the rack design for the galvanizing process. This included the proper placement of air ventilation and zinc drainage holes to ensure no air pockets or excessive zinc pick-up would occur during the galvanizing process. By September 2021, more than 234 tons of steel was galvanized for Iscar GSE and the demand is unlikely to decline. The need for transporting goods will never go away and galvanizing will continue playing a role in this industry for decades to come.
