When IBM decided to build a state of the art technology center in downtown Baton Rouge, they knew they wanted to make a lasting statement that declares IBM is here to stay. "IBM wanted an open, inviting, friendly type of office space allowing them to carry the IBM motto into the next century," said Mark Price, senior associate at Chicago-based Antunovich Associates, the architecture firm that designed the building.
Hot-dip galvanizing will provide a corrosion resistant finish and will assist in maintaining the structural integrity for years to come.
In order to carry that motto another 100 years, the design team called for hot dip galvanizing. In order to provide stability for the exterior stone and glass work, the building utilized hot dipped angle lintels and angle embeds. This helps protect the building from the harsh, humid climate of southeast Louisiana, both inside and out.
The nine-story, 455,000 square foot building has 360 degree views of downtown Baton Rouge and overlooks the Mississippi River. While the views are spectacular, the urban and riverfront environment can take its toll on the structural components of the building. However, hot-dip galvanizing will provide a corrosion resistant finish and will assist in maintaining the structural integrity for years to come.
As the first high-rise riverfront residential and office project in downtown Baton Rouge in more than half a century, the new IBM Client Innovation Center complex has changed the skyline and is energizing riverfront and downtown development. According to Price, IBM wanted a design that was flexible, environmentally friendly and allowed for any changes the company may make during its next 100 years.
