The Hobart JetEx line of aircraft ground power equipment has been an industry leader since the 1960s. It wasnt until the equipment evolved through repetition over the past few decades that the Hobart engineers became more concerned with the harsher environmental conditions, both natural and man-made, at airports all over the world. The focus was on a long term corrosion protection system for their chassis assemblies and tow-bar components that support and mobilize their ground power generators.
The engineering team at Hobart proposed a solution for the concerns of corrosion by specifying hot dip galvanizing after fabrication of the chassis assembly and a galvanized and OSHA approved safety painted duplex system for the unit's interlocking tow-bar. Because of the complexity of design of the components and the need to insure the parts were galvanized in accordance to ASTM-123, the fabricator and the galvanizer had to work closely with regard to proper vent hole location and satisfactory dip angle of the various components.
Due to the progressive thinking of the Hobart Team, the selection of hot dip galvanizing is a viable means for insuring a long life and maintenance free solution for the JetEx8 Ground Power Unit. Hobart feels that in the future the option of a hot dip galvanized chassis and duplex coated tow-bar interlock will become standard equipment and could possibly be a true game changer in their industry.
