Apart from being an extremely important construction material, cement is a necessary for the development and enhancement of infrastructure. The international cement industry has continued to rise in demand over the past several years because it is one of the most developed goods in the world, constantly used in construction projects.
Hot-dip galvanizing stood above the rest due to its quick turnaround time, availability, initial cost, corrosion performance and durability.
The Gypsum Cement Plant, located in Charlevoix, Michigan, supports the robust demand of customers across the Midwest region. To keep up with the growing cement industry, the owners decided it was important to expand the existing plant to increase production. Although the addition would increase supply when completed; the company still needed to maintain deliveries throughout construction to keep customers happy. Expedited construction therefore became a key element of the design and decision-making process.
With expediting the project in mind, hot-dip galvanizing stood above the rest due to its quick turnaround time, availability, initial cost, corrosion performance and durability. The decision came with understanding that the cement plant would be a rugged and dirty environment. Any other paint method would simply chip off with time and require more maintenance, but hot-dip galvanizing provided next-level protection and will support the structure with durability and corrosion protection throughout the life of the plant.
The galvanizer for the project met all expedited deadlines set by the customer and had to quickly adapt to changing schedules throughout the project. With a total of over 15 loads and two-week timeframes, the galvanizer gladly took on the challenge. This required fluid communication and responsiveness from all involved.
Not only will this cement plant be able to stand strong into the future because of hot-dip galvanizing, but it will also be able to increase production so that other companies can benefit from the faster turnaround times. This addition will also provide more employment opportunities for the community and grow its awareness in the area.
The Gypsum Cement Plant can now support increased production as time goes on and the HDG will provide the support it needs to operate long into the future.
