All supporting steel structures throughout the garage were hot-dip galvanized because of quick turnaround time as well as long-term corrosion protection. The engineer considered galvanized steel and paint, and ultimately decided on galvanizing after realizing the initial costs were quite competitive.
After an error in the design, and much of the steel being remade, the engineer needed a tight delivery schedule to avoid chargebacks for being off schedule. Luckily, because the steel had been specified for hot-dip galvanizing, the steel was turned in two days and delivered on schedule. Cost competitive initially, and saving money with the quick turnaround, the long lasting protection of hot-dip galvanizing will ensure this garage provides decades of convenience for the hospital.
