This parking garage was an addition to the first two floors originally made up of concrete. Grand Rapids, Michigan, once an overwhelming favorite for the A588 Weathering steel, has decided to utilize Hot-Dip Galvanizing for new structures.
Carl Walker Parking Consultants of Kalamazoo, Michigan was receptive to a seminar several years ago concerning galvanizing vs weathering steel. Kent County Department of Aeronautics, has had experience with the 588 weathering material and has been quite satisfied with other projects that had been Galvanized. This led to the decision to completely Hot-Dip Galvanize the parking structure renovation and additions. Part of this project represented over 60 truckloads of spliced Joist. The largest project of its kind that, the Vulcraft Company reports, has ever been done.
