Felling Trailers and their customer are well aware their trailers are subjected to the most challenging and hostile of environments. This owner chose a Felling trailer because other trailer manufacturers were unable to build to his specifications. He chose HDG as a coating because even with proper preparation and premium paint, the trailer would eventually corrode due to salt and calcium chloride exposure on the roads in this northern climate. This customer is using the trailer to haul a variety of heavy equipment every month of the year. HDG was the clear choice to assure the function, durability, long life and safe operation for many years.
Early in the engineering and design phase, Felling Trailers design team fully collaborated with the galvanizer to ensure proper venting and airflow in and around the many gussets, stiffeners and pockets before beginning the manufacturing process. This cooperation between Felling and the galvanizer greatly contributed to making the project a success. Although Felling is familiar with galvanizing smaller utility trailers, the size of this project at over 52 presented challenges for both Felling and the galvanizer. Fortunately, the galvanizing kettle is just large enough to manage this as a single dip.
Pictured is the FT-80-3 OTR galvanized trailer on the day of delivery. When the customer received his trailer, he said, The fit and finish is second to none. Felling is a full line trailer manufacturer located in central Minnesota that was started in 1974 by Merle J Felling. Felling Trailers currently manufactures 3,000 plus trailers a year ranging from a 3,000 lb utility trailer to a 120,000 lb hydraulic gooseneck trailer. Its standard trailer line includes over 220 models. Fellings pride and differentiation is its customized trailer division. Their engineers utilize the latest industry leading design techniques along with their experienced metal craftsmen and cutting edge technology to turn its customers' conceptual trailer needs into a tangible product. Hot-dip galvanizing is a coating solution which protects that investment for maintenance-free operation many years beyond any other coating.
