The Dodge Street Overpass is the most traveled commuter street in Omaha, daily seeing the highest amount of traffic in the state of Nebraska. The overpass is part of a multi-million dollar project to reduce and eliminate traffic congestion for out-of-state travelers and those en route to major shopping centers and sporting events. The project, engineered by Support Structures Division and fabricated by Infrastructure and Woerner Wire, was completed one year ahead of schedule. The Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) determined hot-dip galvanizing the overhead sign structures was the preferred choice for durability over time, providing protection against frigid winters and hot, humid summers.
NDOR has used HDG in the past for all sign structuring needs, and determined it to be the best protection against liquid de-icing methods the state uses to keep the roads operable in the winter. HDG also provided the fabricators and galvanizers excellent turnaround time, keeping the project ahead of schedule. All of the sign structures and lighting systems received the galvanized coating resulting in an improved appearance, and maintenance free life for many years to come.
