The items in this project were originally galvanized in the 1960s, and were up for rehabilitation. The cost factor determined the use of galvanizing over stainless replacements. The pieces had to be sandblasted, stripped, and reworked prior to galvanizing. Durability was a major factor in the decision to hot-dip galvanize, as the project needed to get another 40-plus years of serviceability out of the coating. This application is in a water treatment facility that has many chemicals and filtering applications to produce clean drinking water, so corrosion resistance was a must.
