Zigzagging across the New York sky, the Crown shines brightly blue over the Griffiss Business and Technology Park. This was a first time galvanizing experience for artist and sculpture Rainer Maria Wehner. She chose hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) not only for its protective qualities, but also for its affordability. Not only was HDG more affordable than the competing three-coat paint system, it exponentially increases life expectancy. Wehner desired a very smooth finish for her masterpiece.
She chose hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) not only for its protective qualities but also for its affordability.
For this reason, after galvanizing, the piece was powder coated. Galvanizing plus powder coating creates an extremely durable and aesthetically pleasing product. The Crown shines blue in the sky with a virtually flawless finish. The 5,800 people who frequent the area on a daily basis can easily see why Wehner was extremely pleased with the results of the duplex system, and will continue to admire the zigzagging sculpture for generations.
