Corvallis High School (established 1910) is located between downtown Corvallis and Oregon State University. The school is committed to its 1213 students to fulfill the requirements of the federal individuals with disabilities act (IDEA), which ensures that all children with disabilities have access to a free and public education. ADA and general access to the High School is provided with the installation of this 560 foot $490,000.00 covered walkway which connects to one of Corvallis's main arterial roadways.
The administrative team at Corvallis High School is dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all students, families, and staff. This almost "park-like' covered walkway creates both of those features.
Erection of this project included 24" square by 10' deep footers with 1-1/2" x 10' anchor bolts to secure walkway posts. Cantilever arms are 8'4" with supporting columns that range from 11'8"-13'10". Overall size of these cantilever units and the depth of the galvanizer's kettle meant the use of "progressive dipping."
HDG was specified for this project due to the elements they will be exposed to as a result of being in a "seasonably" wet environment. Hot-dip galvanizing and a duplex coating of blue paint were selected due to the shorter lead time required for this project. This duplex coating makes the walkway an attractive feature and a civic contribution. The architectural design of the walkway blends in with the previously erected bike coral.
