This is an example of galvanizing's ability to extend the life of a product. Originally produced from galvanized sheet metal, these panels were regalvanized to capitalize on the excellent long term corrosion protection provided by the coating. In addition to the economical savings afforded by re-coating steel articles with zinc, galvanized steel can be recycled.

Recycling offers both environmental and economic benefits by: reducing volumes of material that end up in landfills, saving energy by reducing the need for mining and smelting, relieving environmental impact on the land and water, and conserving zinc ore. The United States Bureau of Mines estimates that with enhanced recovery, recycled zinc will account for 40% of total consumption by the year 2000.
