Founded in 2018, Cedar Ridge Campers has earned a reputation for building compact, feature-rich off-road campers designed to handle the most demanding outdoor environments. From rocky backcountry trails to coastal campsites, their trailers are built for customers who expect durability, reliability, and years of service.
Longevity is a cornerstone of the Cedar Ridge brand, and corrosion protection is a key selling point for customers seeking a camper capable of decades of service.
Like many manufacturers, Cedar Ridge's original design utilized a powder-coated steel chassis and a wooden body. While the design performed well initially, real-world use revealed opportunities for improvement. Off-road travel exposed the powder-coated chassis to constant abuse from rocks and debris, leading to chipped coatings and potential corrosion. At the same time, the wooden body components were susceptible to dimensional changes and distortion caused by long-term environmental exposure.
Determined to create a more durable product, Cedar Ridge undertook a complete redesign of its camper platform. The company replaced the wooden body with a polycarbonate construction and transitioned from powder coating to a hot-dip galvanized steel chassis, dramatically improving the trailer's long-term durability and corrosion resistance.
The chassis is the foundation of a camper and plays a critical role in the performance and lifespan of the product. Many units are routinely exposed to wet, coastal, and brackish environments where corrosion can quickly attack steel. While conventional coatings provide protection only to accessible surfaces, hot-dip galvanizing protects both the exterior and interior of hollow structural members, guarding against the hidden corrosion that can begin from the inside out.
The transition to galvanizing was not without challenges. Early galvanizing attempts produced cosmetic imperfections, including streaking and ash deposits. Rather than abandoning the process, Cedar Ridge worked closely with its galvanizer to improve the design. Together, they evaluated venting and drainage requirements and modified the chassis to incorporate properly located holes that allowed zinc to flow freely throughout the structure. This collaborative effort improved coating quality and ensured consistent galvanizing results while maintaining manufacturing efficiency.
The benefits of hot-dip galvanizing quickly became apparent. Unlike exclusively powder-coated frames that can be scratched, chipped, or damaged during transportation and off-road use, the galvanized coating provides durable, long-lasting protection. The metallurgically bonded zinc coating withstands the rigors of travel while continuing to protect the steel even in harsh environments. The result is a chassis that requires less maintenance, delivers greater longevity, and provides customers with confidence that their investment is built to last.
Longevity is a cornerstone of the Cedar Ridge brand, and corrosion protection is a key selling point for customers seeking a camper capable of decades of service. Recognizing the value of galvanizing, Cedar Ridge now offers a galvanized chassis as its standard corrosion-protection system, with a duplex galvanizing and powder-coat option available for customers seeking enhanced appearance and durability.
By embracing hot-dip galvanizing and collaborating closely with its galvanizer, Cedar Ridge transformed its product line and elevated the performance of its campers. The project demonstrates how thoughtful engineering, innovative product development, and proven corrosion protection can create a superior product that delivers lasting value to both the manufacturer and the end user.
