Home to the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, the Arena District is one of Columbus, Ohio's most visible landmarks. The entire District consists of a hockey arena, a pedestrian bridge and three parking garages. The hockey arena itself had to be perfect to achieve the ever-present industrial look that the city of Columbus is incorporating into the downtown landscape.
A 60-year-old bridge was blasted, cleaned, re-galvanized and painted, to create the new Ludlow Alley Pedestrian Bridge.
A 60-year-old bridge was blasted, cleaned, re-galvanized and painted, to create the new Ludlow Alley Pedestrian Bridge. The Nationwide Insurance Parking Garage was designed by the architect to be vibrant, inviting, and unlike any other parking garage in the city. Hot-dip galvanized steel protects all the district's exposed steel.
The project's architects and engineers wanted an industrial looking area. To create this look, plenty of exposed steel can be seen, including lintels, doorways, roof steel, canopies, screen frames, decorative structural steel, floor beams and stringers.Because of the steel exposed on the garages, bridge, and arena, it was necessary to specify the best possible corrosion prevention system around, and only hot-dip galvanized could achieve this requirement, providing the people of Columbus with a maintenance-free landmark for decades to come.
