Approximately 32 miles Northeast of Dallas, sits a community nestled between Frisco and Allen called McKinney. A town settled by pioneers in 1841, boasts a population of 161,905 living in a close-knit community chosen by Money Magazine in 2014, as the best place to live in the country. Often idolized for their vision and prosperity, McKinney is a place locals have grown through determination and vision.
Following several years of planning and strategizing, the vision became a reality, and the project is expected to be self-supporting in three years.
The heart of McKinney revolves around its many, quality family events, schools, and churches. Local officials saw a need for a central location for families to escape the confines of home, safe from the sweltering heat of long Texas summers. Looking to make this vision a reality for its citizens, the McKinney Aquatics Center was born. The trustees of McKinney hired an engineering firm and began to transfer thoughts and dreams onto paper.
The $38 million, 80,000-square foot facility, which rests at the intersection of Eldorado and Alma, hosts a gymnasium, sports court, elevated track, child care, classrooms, locker rooms, and the namesake 10,000-square foot pool. Following several years of planning and strategizing, the vision became a reality, and the project is expected to be self-supporting in three years. As the new Apex Centre is expected to be a cornerstone in the McKinney community, it was paramount to build the facility in a sustainable manner to ensure it would benefit both current and future generations.
Hot-dip galvanizing was specified for its long lasting, maintenance-free corrosion protection as well as for aesthetics as the zinc coating would offer decades of consistent, rust free appearance compared to paints that would fade and deteriorate. As the backbone of the Apex Centre, hot-dip galvanized steel will protect the heart of the McKinney community for many decades to come.e.
