The radiators and fan guards were originally painted. The paint didn't last as long as expected and the pieces were carefully removed from the transformers of the substation. They were than sandblasted, re-welded where necessary and pressure tested to make sure there were no holes present before galvanizing. It was necessary for a quality corrosion prevention system because the radiators and fan guards used in this substation are in a salt-air environment with a lot of rain and coastal wind. The coating had a necessary smooth coating, allowing even heat dispersion from oil inside the transformers.
