HDG Process Surveys

Over the years, the American Galvanizers Association (AGA) Technical Department has conducted quantitative research of the batch hot-dip galvanizing industry in North America through periodic survey of our members. These “Process Surveys” are used to evaluate overall plant efficiency through the collection of data on plant productivity and operations metrics. Analysis of the data is then distributed with the goal of helping our members understand where the galvanizing industry has been, where it is headed, and where there are opportunities for improvement.

The survey is divided into areas such as productivity, degreasing, pickling, kettle and furnace operations, zinc consumption, stormwater best management practices (BMPs), material handling, touch-up and repair, and other post-galvanizing operations. The information is collected anonymously and then summarized into a report intended to provide a benchmark for galvanizers to locate their position in the industry and to gain insight into the performance levels that can be reached in each category.
