Indianapolis Zoo Primate Cage
The newest and most dynamic exhibit ever designed for the Indianapolis Zoo will include a safe holding pen made of galvanized steel. Winter through summer, rain snow or shine the galvanized coating will provide a corrosion free and safe environment in the back holding area of this expansive exhibit. Durability and performance made hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) the obvious choice.
The coating had to be smooth, so as to not injure the primates as they climb the different levels. No runs or drips could be allowed on any parts.
Although great apes and orangutans are large strong animals, they are susceptible to poisoning and illness. They could not take that chance that paint that could be accidentally consumed by the primates. The hard galvanized coating cannot be easily chewed off, and is also not toxic.
