Champion Truck Bodies
Champion has been building truck bodies for many years, but had made limited use of galvanized steel. When a show vehicle displayed a galvanized subframe, demand for this added-cost option has grown from a trickle to a flood for this growing use of hot-dip galvanizing. The majority of these trucks end up in either a coastal or seasonal climate area, where the added protection of HDG is very important and can add years to the life of the product. Roll-off truck bodies and tow trucks are exposed to extreme abuse and require all the protection they can get. Galvanizing provides this protection. Subframes and lifting arms are the primary components galvanized, but many other parts are also galvanized in order to keep rust at bay. The nice galvanized appearance of the finished product is very important on a new vehicle, and the corrosion of galvanized parts is very low, adding value to expensive products. Only a small fraction of truck bodies nationwide are galvanized. This represents a significant market opportunity for galvanizers.
